The Khalil Jamal King Gift Fund was established in December 2012, through Cornell University's Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI), in memory of the Cornell Class of 2013 student who tragically passed away in August 2010.

Many students would like to gain the opportunity to study abroad while at Cornell University  but for some it does not seem feasible.  The purpose of this gift fund is to provide financial assistance to Cornell University students seeking a study abroad experience.

The goal is to make it possible for more students to experience the benefits that come from studying abroad. Not only does such an experience enrich the lives of the students who study abroad, but it also enriches the Cornell University campus upon the students' return, as they bring their newfound knowledge back to campus with them.

Why the emphasis on Study Abroad?

Khalil often expressed an interest in studying abroad while attending Cornell University.  Although he was unable to do so, he was able to spend his last summer, the summer of 2010, traveling throughout Europe, learning and growing as an individual; gaining experiences that would last a lifetime. The impact that Khalil's travels abroad had on him were positive, if nothing else; and we would like to provide students with the opportunity to have the same experience.
